Political parties cautioned against the use of polluting material

Adilabad Collector and Returning Officer Adilabad (ST) Parliamentary constituency D. Divya on Monday cautioned political parties against using polluting material as part of the Lok Sabha election campaign. She said Election Commission of India has issued instructions for use of environment-friendly material.

The Collector was addressing a press conference for release of details in connection with the April 11 elections in the constituency, especially those related to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). She said in the next 72 hours, election authorities will collect information related to ongoing works and no new works would be sanctioned until the MCC is lifted.

Among other things, Ms. Divya said any money transaction over ₹10,000 has to be made through cheque or electronic transfer. The cap on expenditure has been fixed at ₹70 lakh per candidate, she revealed.

The Returning Officer said there are 14.78 lakh voters in the constituency, which encompasses seven Assembly segments. About 10,000 polling personnel and other polling personnel are needed for conduct of election, she added.

Earlier, Kumram Bheem Asifabad Collector Rajeevgandhi Hanumanthu told reporters that voters should check for their names in voter list. This can also be done via toll-free number — 1950.
