DINDIGUL
An armed gang hurled country bombs to eliminate an anti-social who was hiding in a dwelling at Weavers Colony in Nallampatti in Dindigul district.
Apprehending troubles, when he and his wife attempted to escape, the gang chased them and attacked them with deadly weapons. They collapsed in a pool of blood.
As news spread, senior police officers visited the spot.
A police officer said that the anti-social was identified as Pandi alias Tirupur Pandi of Paraipatti in the district and his wife Panchu alias Panchavarnam. They had two sons Santosh and Ashok Kumar. Preliminary probe suggested that the murder may have been committed to settle scores as Pandi figured in a heinous crime a year ago.
Fearing risk that he may be done to death by his rivals, Pandi had sneaked into the town and lived without much movement outside. When he had been to a relative’s house two days ago, the rivals may have spotted and eliminated him, the officer said and added that the killers had covered their faces with helmet and ensured that the identity was not revealed even in CCTV cameras in the vicinity.
However, the police investigations had begun on the revenge angle, the officer said and added that they have vital leads on the suspects. The relatives of Pandi and his sons were being questioned by the special teams.
An anti-social element Kumaresan of R V Nagar was killed by an armed gang a year ago under the south police station limits. At that time, eight members were involved in the murder and a few of them were assigned with the job by Pandi.
Dindigul SP R Saktivel, ADSP Suhasini and others visited the spot.
