Police charge man after Gold Coast home, tinnie arson

Police have arrested and charged the man they will allege was responsible for an arson attack on the Gold Coast in which "this is for f---ing my wife" was painted on the house, almost two months ago.

It will be alleged an arsonist broke into the homeowner's ute on January 14, reversed it into the side of the Belah Street home in Ashmore, set the vehicle alight and the fire spread to the house.

A boat and trailer were taken from the scene and a message stating "this is for f---ing my wife" was spray-painted onto the outside of the home before it went up in flames about 8am.

The 46-year-old male resident was not home at the time of the fire.

The stolen tinnie and trailer were found alight on Henri Robert Drive in Clagiraba, 21 kilometres west of the house, about 6.30pm on the day of the fire.

A 27-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested during a raid in the Gold Coast suburb of Hope Island on Saturday.

He has been charged with four counts of arson and one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing a vessel and stealing a vehicle.

The accused was set to face the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
