PONDA: In a major accident at Kelini-Usgao on Sunday involving a passenger bus and a car, two persons- car driver and co-passenger died on the spot, while around 11 persons were left injured including 10 bus passengers and an occupant of the car.
As per information available, the mishap occurred at around 5.30 pm at Kelini-Usgao, near the police outpost.
The bus and a Ford Fiesta car collided against each other resulting in the fatalities. The bus was proceeding towards Usgao from Bicholim with around 20 passengers on board, while the Ford Fiesta car was proceeding towards Bicholim via Usgao with three occupants in it, including the
driver.
The police said that the collision between the bus and the car was so massive that car driver and co-occupant died on the spot and that both the vehicles might have been proceeding at a high speed at the time of the accident.
The deceased persons were identified as Lawrence Gonsalves (26), a resident of Pratapnagar-Dharbandora, who was driving the car and co-occupant Sunil Naik (35), a resident of Palwada-Usgao. The third occupant of the car was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim in a serious condition, informed the Ponda police.
Some of the injured passengers from the bus were shifted to primary health centre at Usgao. Following the accident, driver of the bus, identified as Rajaram Toraskar (38), a resident of Tisk-Usgao, surrendered before the police. Further investigation was being carried out.
