BJP starts poll campaign in DK
TNN | Mar 12, 2019, 04:55 ISTMangaluru: The BJP kick-started the saffron party’s general election 2019 campaign for Dakshina Kannada parliamentary constituency here on Monday. With incumbent MP Nalin Kumar Kateel certain to be the party’s nominee for the polls, the MP in no uncertain terms told senior party workers that he is the MP due to their blessings and unwavering commitment to party ideology.
It is this same commitment to the party that has seen Narendra Modi become Prime Minister and play a decisive role in the way the world perceives India, he said. “BJP is in to politics not for power, but to bring about national change and it has happened because of you,” he said.
Observing that elders may feel that politics has changed from their time to the present, Nalin said, “Politics is a path strewn with many thorns. We have not wavered from our stated path nor have we compromised on our ideology – that puts nation first, party next and individual last.” Yet since the Jan Sangh days, there has been a sea change in way politics is perceived and this has changed all the more ever since Modi came to national politics, he said.
The only three assurances Modi gave in 2014 was to ensure a Congress free India, corruption free administration and progress for all and appeasement of none.
Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath who presided said many of the senior party workers have put in more years for the party than his age. “It is only because of your efforts that we (MPs and MLAs) are in a position of power and are enabling the hands of PM Modi,” he said. The MLA also urged the senior workers to guide and correct them in case they stray from the path that the party has chosen for them. Party leaders were present.
QUOTE
A string of public holidays in the run up to and after the poll date of April 18 for Dakshina Kannada may see a low voter turnout. It is my humble request to all senior party workers to spread the word around in your neighbourhood and enthuse families planning to take a break to come out and exercise their franchise and celebrate this festival of democracy. - D Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru City South MLA
