As preparations for the LS polls have got under way, the district administration has readied control and ballot units as well as voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines, said District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla in a press release here.
The machinery has been tested and readied, he said and appealed to the public and the media to create an atmosphere where peaceful polling can be ensured. The release said the general elections in 2014 had seen Ernakulam and Chalakudy constituencies record 73.56% and 76.94% voting respectively. Areas where polling was comparatively low have been identified and awareness programmes will be conducted there, it added.
There are a total of 24,10,388 voters in the district. Of them 11,84,175 are men and 12,26,203 are women. There are 10 transgender voters. There will be 2,251 polling stations.
The election notification will be issued on March 28. The last date for filing of nomination papers is April 4. Scrutiny of papers will be held on April 5. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 8.
