The district administration has made preparations for strict enforcement of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections.
Deputy Commissioner K.A. Dayanand told presspersons here on Sunday that check-posts have been set up at 27 points in the district to prevent illegal transportation of cash and electronic gadgets to woo voters. Besides, 27 static surveillance squads and 21 flying squads have been formed to prevent any violation of the code.
Mr. Dayanand said it was mandatory to seek permission from the district administration for transporting cash in excess of ₹50,000. Though taking permission is not necessary for weddings and spiritual programmes, organisers should take measures to ensure the events are not misused for political purposes, he said.
Regarding the security arrangements to conduct polling in a peaceful manner, he said that of the 2,021 polling stations in the district, 362 have been classified as sensitive. The classification was done based on the inputs provided by intelligence sources. Security will be beefed up near these polling stations, he said.
Mr. Dayanand also chaired a meeting with representatives of parties on Monday and briefed them on the preparations for poll code enforcement, the amenities provided at polling stations, and the procedures to be followed by candidates to furnish information to the EC on their expenses. Poornima, Additional Deputy Commissioner, was present at the meeting. Polling for Shivamogga parliamentary seat will be held on April 23. As many as 16,47,527 voters — 8,18,708 male and 8,28,819 female — have enrolled.
