Central portal to put out states’ report card on child protection
Ambika Pandit | TNN | Mar 12, 2019, 05:08 ISTNEW DELHI: Implementation of central legislations aimed at protection of children will now be monitored through a centralised portal set up by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The portal, likely to be made functional by April, will put out a national report card periodically based on the data states share on the portal. As of now, there is no comprehensive database where all information pertaining to implementation of laws across the states can be found.
The laws for which states will need to submit implementation updates include the Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO Act, Right to Education Act and legislations for prevention and prohibition of child labour and child marriage.
Sharing details of the digitised framework, NCPR chief Priyank Kanoongo said, “The states will update information on the portal on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. To avoid delays on account of collation of district level data, we have created a mechanism for seeking data in certain categories directly from the district level and this can be later authenticated by the state as final.”
Kanoongo said each state will be assigned a login ID and password to access and update the portal. “Compliance will be mandatory as we are talking about implementing the laws and if any state does not respond, it is within our power to summon officials of the department responsible for implementing the law,” he said.
