Children below five years of age were administered polio drops as part of Pulse Polio Immunisation (PPI) programme held at 3,786 booths in the district on Sunday. There are around 4.47 lakh children, including 1.68 lakh in urban limits in the district. Children, in the target group, who have missed the vaccine on Sunday, would be covered on March 11 and 12, District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Tirupathi Rao said.

In total, 5.85 lakh doses were kept ready. As many as 15,746 vaccinators and 379 supervisors were deputed, along with ASHA workers, for the programme. In all, 123 transit booths were set up at bus stands, railway stations and other public places to administer the polio drops,” he said.

As many as 532 high-risk areas have been identified in the urban and rural areas, where the medical teams focussed more on the drive.

Meanwhile, 1,213 children were administered polio drops in the Waltair division at 28 booths set up at health units, railway stations and at the Divisional Railway Hospital. During the drive, children travelling in the trains were also administered the immunisation drops.

The drive was also conducted at Divisional Railway Hospital, Waltair, under the supervision of Dr. S.K. Mohanty, Principal Chief Medical Director/Bhubaneswar; Dr. B.G.S.Rao, Chief Medical Superintendent; Dr. Samanta, Additional CMS, and Dr. Sharath Babu. The campaign was organised utilising the services of medical, paramedical and other staff of Divisional Railway Hospital and railway health units.
