Missing hikers: search resumes for 'fit' Melbourne couple missing on Mount Buffalo for three days
The search for an Essendon couple missing in Victoria's high country will resume at 10am on Monday, three days since the hikers were last seen.
A police-led search on foot, helicopter and horseback has failed to find Trevor Salvado, 60, and Jacinda Bohan, 58, who haven't been seen since they left to go hiking on Mount Buffalo on Friday morning.
The missing couple are described as experienced hikers but concerns for their welfare have heightened as night temperatures plunge to single digits.
The married couple were last seen by friends at a caravan park in Bright on Friday when they left for Mount Buffalo around 9.30am in their fawn-coloured Skoda Yetu.
The pair were expected to return from a bushwalk at Reservoir Track on Mount Buffalo about 12.30pm but did not appear.
Their car was located near the Reservoir Track on Saturday, however, the pair could not be located.
The track is an unsealed road leading to several popular lookouts and walking trails.
"They are really fit, strong hikers and well-experienced at hiking in the area," Inspector Kerrie Hicks told reporters at the national park on Sunday.
The retired pilot and teacher were meant to spend the Labour Day long weekend with friends.
Friend Mario De Vuono said the nature-loving husband and wife did "like to get out and adventure into the tracks".
"They are usually very well-prepared when they go out. It is very out-of-character for them not to return," he told Nine News.
"We are hopeful for a good outcome."
Another friend Barrie More said they had come "every Labour Day weekend" for almost a decade to Mount Buffalo.
Police and family hold concerns for their welfare as their disappearance is out of character and police are appealing for public assistance to help find them.
Police have released images of the pair in the hope someone may recognise them and be able to provide information on their whereabouts.
Mr Salvado is described as approximately 183cm, with a medium build, short grey hair, blue eyes, grey moustache and fair complexion.
Ms Bohan is described as approximately 170 cm tall, with a thin build, light brown/blonde short hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Wangaratta Police Station on 03 5723 0848.
