Three booked for duping student of Rs 2L
TNN | Mar 11, 2019, 04:54 ISTCoimbatore: The city police have registered a case against a private firm for cheating of a BSc graduate of Rs 2.40 lakh by promising her admission to a reputed institution in Italy for a post-graduation course.
Police said, Leena Antony, 22, of Kanjikode in Palakkad district, had approached Vithai International Services Private Limited on Avarampalayam Road in the city in July 2018 to enquire about higher education opportunities abroad.
Its director Thangavel Subbaiyan and managing directors Surendran Thangavel and Meena promised to admit her in a reputed educational institution and demanded Rs 2.40 lakh, which she paid in two instalments. The firm then issued her an admission letter and asked her to apply for visa. When she realized that the admission letter was fake, she asked them to return the amount, but in vain.
Based on her complaint, the Kattoor police registered a case against the trio under Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. tnn
