Karnataka: School check-up reveals girl impregnated by teen brother

MANGALURU: A health checkup organised by a local primary health care centre for schoolstudents in Vittal has brought to light the pregnancy of a minor girl. The girl was allegedly impregnated by her brother, who is also a minor.


Health check-ups at schools are conducted on a regular basis to ensure that students stay in good health.


Growing suspicious over the student’s behaviour, a staffer of the primary healthcare centre suggested to the teachers that she be subjected to certain tests. Tests conducted at the Government Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru confirmed that the girl was four months pregnant .


Soon, teachers brought the issue to the notice of police. The girl told the officials that she was sexually assaulted by her brother. The17-year-old has been detained and sent to a centre under the Juvenile Justice Board.
