You Can Play Mario Kart With The Mercedes CLA’s MBUX Infotainment System

Mercedes-Benz’s innovative MBUX infotainment system has vastly improved its models’ interiors and made them feel more much modern. As it turns out, they has also had some fun with the system.

At the recent 2019 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which was held from February 25 to 28, Mercedes-Benz had a new CLA on display and loaded up on its infotainment system was Mario Kart. Well, technically, it’s not Mario Kart but instead SuperTuxTart, the open-source version of the popular Nintendo racing game.

Not only has Mercedes installed the software on its MBUX infotainment system, it also customized it to work with the vehicle’s controls. Consequently, players use the CLA’s steering wheel and pedals to play the game. In addition, the paddles behind the steering wheel can be used to perform various game functions.

Mercedes-Benz also designed the air conditioning system to blow cool air into the cabin as the player’s speed increases. The car’s ambient lighting also adjusts colors and when the player crashes, the CLA’s seatbelt tightens.

Of course, playing games in your car isn’t something you could do while driving or waiting at a traffic light and would only be possible when the vehicle is parked. The display at the Mobile World Congress was primarily used to showcase the capabilities of the MBUX infotainment system.

However, it is reported that Mercedes-Benz does plan to roll out various gaming applications to customers in the near future. Hopefully, they will only be available to passengers, and/or when the vehicle is stationary.
