TNSTC staffer falls off bus top while lifting tyres, dies
TNN | Mar 11, 2019, 04:57 ISTCoimbatore: In a freak accident, a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) worker was killed after he fell from top of a bus while pulling up a tyre using a rope, which broke in the process.
The deceased was identified as M Ganapathi, 56, a native of Cheran Colony at Karamadai. He was a sanitary worker with the TNSTC bus depot-2.
The incident took place around 4am on Sunday when Ganapathi, along with other two workers Kandavel and Periyasamy, was loading tyres atop a TNSTC bus that plays between Coimbatore and Pollachi. The trio were atop the bus.
“While they were lifting the tyres, the rope broke suddenly. Ganapathi lost his balance and fell down, injuring his head. Co-workers rushed him to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), where he died without responding to the treatment.
TNSTC authorities had issued an identity card to Ganapathy and it shows his post as a sanitary worker. But he was assigned other works by officials, said a source. Members of DMK union condemned the TNSTC officials for not providing crane to lift the tyres. Ganapathy was a member of the union.
Police said the body was kept at the hospital mortuary. The Ukkadam police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
