Bikers fire shots, snatch Rs 6 lakh in Sector 42

CHANDIGARH: Two men on a motorcycle snatched Rs 5 lakh from an employee of an money exchange company after firing at him near the Sector 42-43 roundabout on Saturday night.
Police said Naresh Kumar (42), a resident of Sector 52, was going to a private hospital in Mohali to give the cash to his employer from his office in Sector 22 around 7.30 pm on his Honda Activa scooter. As he reached near the roundabout, the accused stopped him on the pretext of asking an address. They tried to snatch his bag containing the cash. When Naresh resisted, one of the accused took out a pistol and fired at him twice. One of the bullets hit him on his leg and Naresh fell on the ground. The accused fled with his bag. After hearing the gunshots, people gathered at the spot and informed the police. Cops from Sector 36 police station reached the spot and took the injured to Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 16. Police said the injured was out of danger and his condition is stable.
UT SSP Nilambari Jagdale, ASP south division Neha Bhatt, Sector 34 police station house officer Baldev Kumar inspected the crime scene. Police flashed a message and started intensive search operation in the area, but were yet to catch the accused. Police suspect the accused fled towards the Mohali. Sector 36 police registered a case and started probe. Police are scrutinizing CCTV footage of the area.
