Manchester United lost for the first time in the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates.
Here, Samuel Luckhurst gives his verdict on how United performed against the Gunners .
David de Gea 3
Committed an inexplicable and indefensible error to gift Granit Xhaka the opener. His kicking was careless and he always looks beaten at penalties before they are taken.
Ashley Young 5
Switched to the right of a back three to match Arsenal’s formation but still endeavoured to get forward. Looks in need of a rest.
Chris Smalling 6
The calmer of the centre halves. Coped commendably with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.
Victor Lindelof 3
His poorest game in months. Thrown off by being pitted against two strikers and panicked with and without the ball.

Luke Shaw 6
A constant threat down the left and should have claimed an assist for Romelu Lukaku . Adventurous throughout and maybe United’s most consistent attacker.
Nemanja Matic 3
Failed to vindicate his recall at the expense of Scott McTominay. Looked exactly like a player who had not played in almost three weeks.
Fred 5
Caressed the ball against the post but used the ball wastefully at times. Acquitted himself well but clumsy to close on Lacazette and prompt the referee to give a penalty.
Paul Pogba 5
Was not involved enough in the 4-3-3 formation but came into the game more after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changed United’s formation.
Diogo Dalot 5
Could not sustain his momentum from Paris down the right. Provided the odd half-chance but seemed more at ease at right wing-back.

Marcus Rashford 5
Bright on the ball but his decision-making was occasionally questionable and he was too greedy at times. Found Lukaku superbly but there was no finish.
Romelu Lukaku 5
His hold-up play was polished and he worked tirelessly but squandered excellent chances with the game goalless and United a goal down.
Subs
Anthony Martial 5
Returned from injury.
Mason Greenwood 5
Made his Premier League debut.
