Everything we know so far
A lorry driver has been taken to hospital following a “serious” crash on the A55. Police were forced to close the A55 westbound just after J24 between Abergele and Llanddulas after the HGV overturned. Witnesses report that the lorry had overturned and landed in a field next to the road. Firefighters managed to free the trapped man from the lorry with the help of a technical rescue unit. He has been taken to hospital, however his condition is not known. The road remains closed westbound at the moment.
Driver has been freed from the vehicle
Just spoken to the fire service who have confirmed they were called to the crash at 9.05pm. They sent crews from Abergele and Colwyn Bay as well as a technical rescue unit from Wrexham. The driver is now out of the vehicle and is being taken to hospital.
Emergency services remain at the scene
Emergency crews are still working at the scene. At this stage it’s not clear if the driver of the lorry has been injured.
Crash described as 'serious'
The fire service has tweeted about the crash.
Slip roads remain closed
Reports that traffic is starting to slowly move again but police are still blocking off the slip road at Abergele.
Lorry has overturned into field
Witness Alis Penk has posted on the A55 Traffic, Incidents and Information page on Facebook that the lorry has overturned into a field next to the A55. Alis said that firefighters and an ambulance are also at the scene.
