Comedy theatre begins with a bang

A comedy theatre festival at Rabindra Mandap started from Saturday evening with the opening play, Baichadheira Dena. Performed by artistes of city-based Naveen Barnali theatre group and written and directed by Naveen Kumar Parida, the play draws a comparison between a sparrow's survival strategies and that of the poor people in the social strata. It explains how a sparrow is small in size but makes its nest on top of palm trees. Similarly, the downtrodden people in our society can also reach such heights with the right spirit and effort. "It is a good effort by the organisers to give space to comedy. People love to watch these plays and are thoroughly entertained,” said the director.
The funny and educative plays featured actors from the troupe, namely Naveen Parida, Sankarshan Pradhan, Pragyna Ranjan Khatua, Shakti Mishra, Sunanda Kar, Sonika Sahu, among others. City people are happy that unlike other theatre festivals, this one focusses only on comedy. "Here, you get the much-needed break from life's hassles. The play performed last evening, also had a message," said Subhadra Senapati, a member of the audience.
