GHAZIABAD: At least five people, including four of a family, sustained severe burn injuries when a two-storey house collapsed in Vijay Nagar on Saturday morning due to an LPG cylinder burst.
The injured persons have been identified as Wajid (30), his wife Raziya (26), their son Uvesh (6) and daughter Mehvish (2), and one of their neighbours, Savita (31).
“Wajid’s family lived on the ground floor of the two-storey building, while Savita lived on the first floor, along with husband and mother-in-law,” said Shyamvir Singh, SHO of Vijay Nagar police station.
The cooking gas cylinder exploded when Raziya was making breakfast for the family in her kitchen.
Eyewitnesses said the blast had triggered fire and one side of the two-storey building soon collapsed like a pack of cards. Savita’s mother-in-law Sushila said she she heard the sound of the blast around 8.30 am when she had gone to the terrace for drying clothes.
“Soon, I came down and when I opened the gate leading to the house, I found that the front wall of the building had collapsed,” she said.
Around 9 am, a fire brigade along with an NDRF team reached the spot and rescued the injured. They were rushed to a nearby hospital. “The injured were first rushed to a nearby hospital from where they were referred to GTB hospital in Delhi.”
While Raziya has received 55% burns, her husband Wajid suffered 40% burn injuries. Their children are also admitted in the hospital in a critical condition.
