NEW DELHI: Delhi now has a ‘central eye’ to monitor and analyse its water supply network. Delhi Jal Board, on Saturday, inaugurated the data acquisition centre, ‘Master SCADA’, connected to the network of flow meters.

Dinesh Mohaniya, MLA Sangam Vihar and vice-chairman of the board said, “With 10 water treatment plants, 120 primary water reservoirs, 192 tapping points, and over 600 secondary-level reservoirs across the city, DJB has a huge network. For complete water audit of such a network, flow meters are required.”

The project aims to carry out complete water audit starting from outlet of a water treatment plant to the consumers end, a DJB official explained. Last year, the board had initiated installation of flow meters at inlet and outlets of primary and secondary reservoirs across Delhi, which was to be rolled out in two stages.

“There are provisions of primary and secondary water audits. In the first stage, supply is carried out by installing flow meters at the outlet of all WTPs, tapping and inlet of all primary reservoirs. The work undertaken under the first stage has already been completed where over 360 flow meters have been installed,” the official said.

In the second stage, DJB will install flow meters at the outlet of all primary reservoirs, tapping, inlet and outlet of secondary reservoirs.

Once the installation is complete, the data acquisition centre developed in Varunalaya headquarter in Jhandewalan will start operating in its full capacity. It will monitor real time data of over 3,000 strategic distribution nodes.

“We will be able to measure water quantity and pressure at strategic points such as outlets of the plants, rising mains, inlet, outlets of primary and secondary reservoirs and pumping stations. The centre can automatically generate graphs as per the requirement and help analyse the data on supply, leakage and water loss.”
