Student authors to release books at college festival
TNN | Mar 11, 2019, 04:08 ISTCoimbatore: Six student authors from the Government College of Technology in the city will see their books published at the college cultural fest ‘Sangamam’ on Friday.
While literary and cultural clubs in the college have been publishing one or two books by students for the last three years, this is the first time seven bookssix by individual authors and one anthologyare being published in one year.
The books include four collections of poetry, a poetry anthology and two collections of short fiction. Students said the publication cost was met by crowd funding from friends, family and even faculty members.
G Jegadeesan, a final year Production Engineering student, the student in-charge of ‘Sangamam’, said two of the authors would see their second book released at the event, while four others are debutants. “The books are published by two publishers from the city. They plan to print 50 to 100 copies and set up a stall at the cultural fest,” he said.
V Sudarmani, a final year Computer Science student and an author, said the books are on social issues and motivational topics. “While earlier, student writers would begin with writing about love, we chose to speak about life and social issues,” she said. Her book ‘Vidinja Kalyanam’ speaks about how we look at issues in the society and how our priorities shape our understanding of those issues.
Other books include ‘Oru Paithiyakkaranin Diary Kurippukal’ by R Ajithkuumar, ‘Mannukkul Pootha Pookkal’ by Saravana Munees, ‘Maya: Puthirgalin Thuvakkam’ by Samyuktha Venugopal, ‘Karuvil Kalangiya Kanneer’ by Pradeep Rangasamy and ‘Porikkappadaadha Poriyaalargal’ by V Priyanka. The anthology ‘Senkuzhal Sippigal’ is an anthology of poetry and paintings by members of various clubs of the college.
