BENGALURU: Thousands of class 10 CBSE students who wrote second language Kannada paper on Saturday were in for a shock as minimum 22 marks questions were out of syllabus.
The paper for total 80 marks, had contained questions from three-year-old syllabus and had a mixture of questions from old syllabus and new syllabus, even as the syllabus was changed two years ago.
While some of the teachers said that the out of syllabus questions totalled to 26.5 marks, some schools said that it was 22 marks. The exact marks that was out of the syllabus would be clear only after CBSE issues a clarification.
After the exam was over, several students took to twitter to complain about the out of syllabus questions.
Speaking to TOI, a student said it was a shocker to see questions that were never discussed in class. “We raised objection during the reading time between 10.15 to 10.30 am itself. The invigilators said that we write the question number and leave blank so that we would be given grace marks,” said the student.
“It was chaotic when the question paper was distributed. Students immediately noticed that there was a problem. We need to speak to the CBSE board and award the grace marks or moot for re exam. CBSE should be lenient in awarding the grace marks,” said M Srinivasan, President, CBSE Independent Schools association in Karnataka. He further added that such aberration to the tune of more than 22 marks was never seen before.
The Saturday exam has led to lot of stress among children and it may impact their performances in other exams too, said a parent from JP Nagar whose daughter returned home disappointed after writing the Kannada paper. “It’s shocking, how can the board go erroneous? It’s only adding to the stress of the children,” she added.
