India taking all necessary steps for Nirav Modi's extradition: MEA

NEW DELHI: India is taking all necessary step for the extradition of fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, ministry of external affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said on Saturday while addressing the media. Nirav Modi is the prime accused in multi-billion fraud that took place at a Mumbai branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB). This is believed to be the country's biggest scam and his uncle Mehul Choksi is also allegedly involved in it.

Both Choksi and Nirav left the country in January last year before the scam was unearthed. Nirav Modi is in London while Choksi is residing in Antigua.


In the early hours of Saturday, the UK Daily Telegraph published a video and interview with the alleged fugitive, headlined 'Exclusive: India's most wanted man Nirav Modi - accused of £1.5 billion fraud -living openly in London'.


Nirav Modi tracked down to £8 million flat in London's West End

The Daily Telegraph tracked Modi down to three-bedroom £8 million apartment occupying half a floor within the luxury skyscraper called Centre Point off Tottenham Court Road, where rent is understood to be £17,000 a month.


The video reveals that the 48-year-old, who is the subject of an extradition request by India and the has been issued an Interpol red corner notice, is living in a luxury flat near Oxford Street and has started a new diamond business in Soho.
