CHANDIGARH: Union railway minister Piyush Goyal launched the vistadome rail motor car on Friday through video conferencing for tourists on the Kalka-Shimla heritage section.
The fare and time-table of the rail motor car is yet to be decided by the authorities, but the minister dedicated the facility to passengers. The 12-seater rail car is a first-of-its-kind for this particular section with a glass rooftop, LCD, air conditioning and attached washroom.
During his address through video conferencing, the railway minister said the Indian railway is coming up with 100 vistadome coaches for the five narrow gauges in the country. He also shared that around 2,400 toilets will be constructed for the same.
At present, the rail motor car is operational between Kalka and Shimla. It looks more like a bus running on the railway track. This is the most sought-after train journey as this kind of motor car is available on this track only in India.
