PUNE: A 40-year-old pharmacist was arrested on Thursday for slapping a woman police constable of the Deccan traffic branch after she stopped him for jumping signal on Karve Road around 7.30pm.
The Deccan Gymkhana police have identified the pharmacist as Pritesh Shah. Residing in Pune for about a month, he is originally from Khatav. He works in a pharmacy shop.

The woman constable lodged a complaint against Shah after the incident. He has been charged under IPC sections 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty).

Sub-inspector Milind Kamble of the Deccan Gymkhana police said the woman constable and her two colleagues were manning traffic near Yashwantrao Chavan (two-wheeler) bridge on Karve Road on Thursday evening. “She saw Shah, coming towards Karve Road on a two-wheeler from the Shastri Road side via Yashwantrao Chavan bridge, jumping the traffic signal. He was not wearing a helmet either,” he said.

The woman constable stopped Shah and told him to park his two-wheeler along the road. “She told Shah that he would have to pay the fine for jumping the signal and driving the two-wheeler without a helmet,” Kamble said.

When she was filing details on her point of sale (POS) machine, Shah started abusing her. “While she was busy in filing the details, he suddenly slapped her,” Kamble said.

The shocked woman immediately raised an alarm. Her colleagues rushed and caught hold of Shah. “He was later handed over to us,” Kamble said.
