Coir corpn. to open 2,000 retail outlets

Targets a turnover of ₹300 crore in 2019-20

The Kerala State Coir Corporation will open more than 2,000 retail outlets in different parts of the State.

T.K. Devakumar, chairman, Kerala State Coir Corporation, said here on Saturday that steps would be taken to increase the turnover of the Corporation to ₹300 crore.

“The company has been making profit for the past 10 years. We have achieved a turnover of ₹160 crore so far this fiscal. We expect the turnover to touch ₹170 crore by the end of this fiscal. We are aiming at a turnover of ₹300 crore in 2019-20,” Mr. Devakumar said.

Tufting lines

A meeting of the Corporation’s director board held last week approved various projects and the budget for the next financial year.

According to officials, the budget proposes setting up of four tufting lines and a stenciling unit at Adoor division.

Mattress unit

At the Beypore division, the coir corporation plans to start a mattress production unit.

Officials said that the production of coir-based boards, which could replace marine plywood panels, would be launched on a pilot basis at the corporation’s Kanichukulangara division.
