BHOPAL: Janbhagidari employees working in higher education department (HED) rae irked over additional commissioner’s remark over their employment status. Additional commissioner has written a letter terming that there is no provision of employment under janbhagidari in state colleges. Congress has mentioned about workers employed under janbhagidari schemes in various departments including HED in its Vachan Patra.
Congress had promised to make a welfare policy related to these workers creating job security for them and their families. CM Kamal Nath wrote a letter to various departments asking details about janbhagidari workers and suggestions to bring uniformity in their employment status. However, when the letter was sent to higher education department, additional commissioner, Ved Prakash replied that there is no provision for employment under janbhagidari scheme in colleges. ‘About 5000 people are working across the state in colleges under janbhagidari scheme. Additional commissioner has provided wrong information.
He should explain status about these 5000 people working in colleges,’ said Manish Dubey, president of Janbhagidari Employees Union. At present most of the workers engaged in colleges do not even get wages according to collector’ rate. They are considered semiskilled labour and should be paid according to approved collector rate.
“We work for more than eight hours and do all odd jobs including computer work, clerical work, conducting exams etc but there is no policy about us. Congress had promised to make a policy for us but officers like these are trying to create adverse image of the government,” said Dubey.
Union leaders met higher education minister Jitu Patwari and expressed their discontent. Janbhagidari employees working in Chhindwara college met CM’s assistant Sanjay Shrivastava and complained against additional commissioner, Ved Prakash, who was posted as collector Chhindwara prior to his posting in higher education department.
