Workers’ union in Gurugram seeks justice for domestic help allegedly molested by employer

The help, in her statement to the police on Thursday, had said that her employer used to molest her when his wife was not at home. The police said she suffered severe injuries after she fell from the fourth floor when she was climbing down from the kitchen window with the help of bedsheets tied to the grills.

A domestic workers’ union, Gharelu Kamgar Union (GKU), sought the intervention of district commissioner and senior police officers in the recent case of molestation of a 21-year-old domestic help, allegedly, by her employer in The Belaire in DLF 5.

The workers are likely to meet the commissioner of police on Monday, said the convener of GKU. The help, in her statement to the police on Thursday, had said that her employer used to molest her when his wife was not at home. The police said she suffered severe injuries after she fell from the fourth floor when she was climbing down from the kitchen window with the help of bedsheets tied to the grills.

“We want to meet the commissioner of police for a non-prejudiced investigation in the case. The sheer lack of safety at workplace, the resulting need for government regulation of the burgeoning domestic services industry and the problem of negligence of local police are longstanding concerns that we have been raising with the district administration,” said Maya John, convener, GKU.
