Gurgaon: An Iraqi national was allegedly duped of US $4, 300 near Medanta hospital on Thursday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Wahhab Razzaq Haddad Al Jizani. Police said Jizani had come to the city for his treatment. When he was sitting in a park near the hospital, one man approached him and struck a conversation with him. He claimed to be a Turkish national and after a while asked Jizani to show his country’s currency. “Unsuspecting, the Iraqi national took out few Dinar from his bag and showed him. He later kept the notes back in his bag. After a while, the accused took out the notes from the bag while Jizani was not looking. He later fled the spot,” as stated in the complaint.

Since Jizani did not know English, he went to the hospital to seek help where the authorities provided him with a translator, Mohammad Quamrul. Quamrul, a native of Assam, later filed a complaint at Sadar police station.

On the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the unidentified man under IPC Section 379 (theft). “We are investigating the case and trying to identify the accused with the help of CCTV footage from the nearby areas. The accused will be arrested soon,” said assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Shiv Kumar.
