New Peugeot 208 GTi Is Coming For The Clio RS, Polo GTI And Fiesta ST

Peugeot recently unveiled the all-new 208 supermini that sports a striking design inside and out and is also based on PSA’s Common Modular Platform (CMP).

The thing is, the most powerful version right now is the all-electric e-208, whose electric motor delivering 136 hp and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque. The 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 8.1 seconds is not bad, but it’s nowhere near hot hatch territory.

Thankfully, down the line Peugeot will launch a new208 GTi, and AksyonovNikita has imagined how it might look like in this rendering.

As expected, it gets new front and rear bumpers, tailgate-mounted spoiler and a set of stylish wheels. Highlighting the exterior design is the bi-color paint as well as the colorful grille, double tailpipes and privacy glass all around.

Poised to take on the Renault Clio RS, Ford Fiesta ST and Volkswagen Polo GTI, the new 208 GTi could arrive before the end of the year or, more likely, sometime in 2020. It will get a sportier chassis compared to the regular 208, which will help it corner better, along with some exclusive items inside.

There have been some reports that, in addition to the petrol-powered model, the subcompact hot hatch might spawn an electric variant, too. Which, with the e-208 already in the range, doesn’t seem too far-fetched.

The outgoing 208 GTi has a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph) and hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds. It uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that produces 208 PS (205 hp / 153 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque, directed to the front axle via a six-speed manual gearbox. While there’s no word whatsoever about the new gen’s powertrain, it should put out a bit more power than its predecessor – and, hopefully, still come with a manual ‘box as well.
