Kareena Kapoor Khan makes a case for a matte base and messy ponytail
- by Avanti Dalal
Kareena Kapoor Khan pulled out all the stops for her hairstyle and makeup look as she attended Shloka Mehta and Akash Ambani's wedding celebrations. See how you can recreate it here

Kareena Kapoor Khan joined the likes of Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at Shloka Mehta and Akash Ambani’s wedding celebrations in a pastel blue lehenga by Manish Malhotra. Beauty wise, Kapoor Khan relied on her usual glam squad—Yianni Tsapatori pulled her strands into a messy ponytail, and Pompy Hans created a matte base with shimmery eyes and glossy lips. The matte base is ideal for a wedding or event where you will be photographed. A good matte foundation will not look cakey or streaky, and will leave the skin looking luminous instead of greasy. An easy ponytail is a foolproof hairstyle which requires only a few products and no hot tools. Plus, it is ideal on second-day hair. Here’s how to get the look at home.
Get the look: Kareena Kapoor Khan’s shimmery lids and messy ponytail
- Start by prepping the face with a primer like the Makeup Forever Mattifying Primer, which will ensure that the face does not look too shiny for flash photography. Using a foundation brush, apply a matte finish foundation to the face, and then using stippling motions, buff it in with a makeup sponge for an even base.
- Conceal under the eyes with a concealer, and then set the face with a loose powder like CoverFX Perfect Setting Powder to ‘bake’ the makeup. Swirl on a generous amount of powder with a fluffy brush, and then lightly dust it off after a few minutes.
- Pick a cream contour palette like Stila Shape And Shade Custom Contour Duo. To create the illusion of high cheekbones, apply the darker shade to the hollows of the cheeks, the jawline, the temples and the sides of the nose. Blend in the lighter shade to the centre of the forehead, top of the cheekbones and down the nose.
- Use an eyeshadow primer on the lids. Start by tightlining the upper and lower lashlines with a black waterproof eye pencil. Then, using a shimmering rose gold champagne coloured eyeshadow like Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise Cream Eyeshadow in Jean. It has a cream texture that dries down quickly. Pick up colour with a damp brush and apply to the entire lid. Add some to the inner corners of the eye to open them up. Using a purple eyeliner like Maybelline New York Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil in Polished Amethyst, draw a thick line above the black eyeliner and then apply two coats of a volumising mascara. Finish by sweeping a highlighter on the brow bones.
- Use a pearl finish lipstick like Kiko Milano Metal Liquid Lip Colour on the lips.
- Hair that has more of a grip is better, so create this hairstyle with day-old locks or spritz on a texturising spray. Pull the hair into a ponytail and secure with an elastic, and then twist a piece of hair over to cover it. Leave tendrils at the front out and blast them with a hairspray to set the strands.
