His cousin suffers injuries; being treated at private hospital

An LKG student riding pillion on his cousin’s bicycle was killed after he came under the wheels of a sand-laden truck at Golconda here on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred between 8.30 a.m. and 8.50 a.m. when the victim, Mohammed Irfan, 5, and his cousin Mohammed Nawaz, 12, residents of Moti Mahal at Bada Bazar, were riding the bicycle, police said.

“Both the children were playing on the narrow stretch when the truck entered the lane. Nawaz, who was riding the bicycle, fell on the footpath, while Irfan came under the rear left wheel of the vehicle,” the Golconda police said. The truck was proceeding towards a construction site in the area. Following the accident, the driver was beaten up by those who had gathered around the spot.

The residents alleged that the traffic police were allowing heavy vehicles to pass through narrow roads in the day time, which was against the rules. Commercial vehicles are prohibited from plying on the city roads between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Nawaz, who suffered injuries, was rushed to a private hospital for treatment, while Irfan’s body was taken to Osmania General Hospital morgue for autopsy. The victim’s body was later handed over to his family members.
