Lok Sabha Seat
Khargone-Barwani
Vijendra Singh Parmar,
Barwani, The BJP is gearing up for Lok Sabha elections after its below expectation performance in the state assembly elections. The Khargone-Barwani seat is believed to be the stronghold of BJP and all the possible candidates and ticket aspirants are in touch withy the party workers and voters and trying to strengthen their position.
The election date is not yet announced but poll atmosphere has built up. After debacle in assembly polls, the party is treading cautiously and will go all out in Lok Sabha elections.
The Sangh workers are also on the ground. In the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won by a margin of over 2.5 lakh votes. The BJP is in power at this for the last 10 years and claims it would register win yet again.
The BJP could lose up to 32 of the 62 seats it won in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh if the trends witnessed in the assembly elections are replicated in the big general elections in 2019.
These three Hindi heartland states had offered rich pickings for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The party had swept virtually all the seats on offer in these three states bagging an aggregate of 62 out of the 65 seats on offer.
However, an important caveat is that these elections were fought largely on local issues and the key issues in the Lok Sabha elections are likely to be very different.
Candidates are on toes
All possible candidates and ticket aspirants are already on toes and active in the area, networking with party workers and voterts. The scheduled tribe morcha state president gajendra Patel’s name is at the top of BJP list of possible candidates. Besides the names of former MP Makansingh Solanki, MP Subhash Patel, former minister Antarsingh Arya and Sumersingh Solanki is also doing the rounds. However, the party is yet to take a final decision. But Gajendrasingh Patel is favourite to get the party ticket.
In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is ceding ground. In the 2014 general elections, the BJP had won 27 out of the 29 seats on offer in MP. The Congress is ahead in Morena, Bhind, Gwalior, Shahdol, Mandla, Chhindwara, Dewas, Ratlam, Dhar, Khargone and Betul.
