Labourer dies as part of house collapses on him

The Sector 40 house that was being demolishedNOIDA: A 19-year-old labourer died of injuries after a part of the ceiling of a house fell on him while he was demolishing it on Friday along with four other people. The accident took place around 11 am when the three-storey house in Block A of Sector 40 was being demolished by the contractor at the behest of its owner.
The deceased labourer has been identified as Raj Bahadur. His elder brother Vinod told TOI, “The ceiling and the pillar came crumbling down and Raj was crushed underneath. My uncle, who had been working with him at the same site, tried to take him out but it took a lot of time to remove the debris.”
Soon after the accident, neighbours called police and a PCR arrived soon after. Raj was taken to the district hospital in Sector 30 where he was declared brought dead.
Prashant Kapil, Sector 39 SHO, said a case has been lodged against the contractor under IPC Section 304 A (death due to negligence). The accused is on the run, he added.
