Two men arrested in NSW after fatal Kensington boxing event shooting

Two men wanted over a fatal shooting outside a boxing event in Kensington last Friday night have been arrested in Sydney.

Police have confirmed 27-year-old Abdullah El Nasher and 25-year-old Mikhael Myko were arrested by NSW Police in Bankstown about 9.45pm on Friday.

Homicide detectives had earlier released the names of three suspects wanted over the shootings, including brothers Abdullah and Ali El Nasher from Brunswick and associate Mikhael Myko, from Pascoe Vale.

Ali El Nasher, 28, remains on the run and police are also seeking a fourth man, who is yet to be identified.

The two men will now be interviewed by detectives from the Echo Taskforce and police say they are expected to appear before court in NSW for an extradition application.

The anti-gang Echo Taskforce has officially taken over the investigation into the incident, which occurred at about 10pm last Friday at the Melbourne Pavillion on the corner of Racecourse Road and Stubbs Road in Kensington.

Three men were shot outside the Kensington boxing match including Craigieburn father Ben Togiai, 30, who died at the scene, and kickboxer Omar Bchinnati, who was shot in the leg. A third man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Underworld and police sources say the shootings are part of an escalation in violence between two Middle Eastern gangs, which has included several drive-by shootings and an arson attack.

On February 7, a Maribyrnong warehouse belonging to construction company Kingcon was the subject of an arson attack that also damaged several luxury cars.

At least two of the victims of the Kensington shooting are linked to Kingcon, which describes itself as "a boutique construction company specialising in small to medium density residential projects".

The arson attack followed a drive-by shooting on the Brunswick home of Abdullah and Ali El Nasher, which was blasted with bullets last month.

The wounding of a man at a western suburbs mechanic workshop has also been linked to the feuding gangs.

A manhunt continues for two other men in relation to the Kensington shooting and investigators are continuing to appeal for anyone who was at the venue on the night and witnessed the shooting to come forward.

It is believed there were about 1000 people in the vicinity at the time of the incident.

Detectives believe a number of people who may have witnessed the shooting are yet to come forward and speak to police, and are hoping they will now do so following Friday night's arrests.

Police are also asking anyone with CCTV or dash-cam vision of the incident to provide it to investigators.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
