Customs seize 1.53 kg gold from 3 passengers

Mangaluru: Customs in the Mangaluru International Airport at Kenjar on Saturday seized foreign origin gold in powder and paste forms of 24 carat purity weighing 1,532.11 gm from three passengers. The accused who had arrived from Dubai by Air India Express flight IX814 had concealed the gold in their rectums. The value of the gold seized in these three separate cases is Rs 49.18 lakh, customs officials stated.

Officials recovered 535.61 grams gold valued at Rs 17.19 lakh from one passenger. Gold seized from the second passenger weighed 505.04 grams and was valued at Rs 16.21 lakh, the officials stated, adding 491.46 grams gold valued at Rs 15,77,587 was seized from a third passenger. On February 24, customs officials had seized 304.92 grams of gold valued at Rs 10.3 lakh from another passenger who had employed a similar modus operandi.
