Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will felicitate several women for their outstanding work done under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) on the occasion of International Women’s Day here on Friday.
Some of them will also get an opportunity to narrate their success stories before the PM at a function to be held at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Trade Facilitation Centre in Bada Lalpur area.

The PM is visiting the city on Friday to lay foundation of Kashi Vishwanath Temple expansion (corridor) project and address women self-help groups associated with the NRLM.

District magistrate Surendra Singh said, “Two women — Farida Khatoon from Allahabad and Rajwanti from Sonbhadra — will narrate their success stories in livelihood mission. Five other women — Neelam Pradhan of Araziline block of Varanasi, Lajwanti of PM’s adopted Jayapur village, Rinki Devi and Renu Devi of Sonbhadra and Pankali Devi of Mirzapur — will be felicitated with citation on the occasion. These women are associated with self-help groups (SHGs) engaged in livelihood mission.”

Meanwhile, some women of Chandapur village were giving final touches to the ‘ang vastram (scarf), which is to be presented to the PM during his visit. These women are members of a SHG supported by the Human Welfare Association. HWA president Rajni Kant said a scarf having an embroidered image of Kashi Vishwanath Temple has been made by Madina Bibi of Chandapur. It will be presented to the PM during the foundation-laying ceremony of Kashi Vishwanath Temple expansion (corridor) project.


Another scarf having an embroidered logo of NRLM has been prepared by Afreen and will be presented to the PM on the function in DD-TFC, Bada Lalpur. Over 1,500 women from different places will take part in the function. Besides, stalls will be set up to display goods made by the women.


Before attending the NRLM function, the PM will perform ‘bhumi pujan’ and lay the foundation stone of Kashi Vishwanath Temple expansion (corridor) project for which Yogi government has sanctioned a budget of Rs 600 crores.


All required arrangements, including traffic diversions, have been made in view of the PM’s visit. According to SP (traffic) Sharavan Kumar Singh, the vehicular movements would remain diverted to alternate routes during the PM’s visit.
