Sunil Pathare’s attempt to present a Women’s Day offering is a Rape and revenge drama that doesn’t have quite the right mix of grip and gumption.
Meera Iyer (Kimaya) is a working professional in a committed relationship with Mohan Suryavanshi (Pulkit Sandhu). She falls foul of four brutish ruffians from her locality. One day when she is alone at home they barge in and gang rape her. But Meera is not one to be cowed down for long. The rest of the story is about how Meera goes about finding restitution for the wrong done to her.
The film’s publicity material tries hard to make this lacklustre effort a strong indictment against the social evil – propounding slogans like ‘No Means No’ and ‘Stop Rape Now’ but the content and treatment is neither distinctive nor surprising. And the drama here is more formulaic, melodramatic and twisty. The cops are stereotyped initially as insensitive, they don’t follow procedure and suddenly end up being sympathetic for no logical reason. The writing is pretty shoddy, direction lacks bite and the choppy editing leads to dramatic jerks in the narrative. Performances are also uninteresting. Women can surely do without such knee-jerk offerings meant to highlight their personal security concerns!
