E2 Royapettah Police Station will soon establish a help-desk for the benefit of Class X, XI and XII students.
As part of this new initiative, the E2 Royapettah Police is inviting volunteers who can teach science, mathematics, Tamil and English.
“The prime objective of the programme is to clarify any doubts students relating to these subjects that students may have. We will identify underprivileged students who need some assistance in academics. As part of this initiative, we are also planning to rope in college students,” says M.S. Bhaskar, Inspector, Law & Order, Royapettah.
This exercise follows the inauguration of an exclusive reading facility at the police station in the first week of February.
Assistant Commissioner of Police H. Krishnamoorthy; Joint Commissioner of Police N. M. Mayil Vahanan and former Inspector of Police, E 2 Royapettah Police, K. Devaraj, are credited with creating this facility.
According to police sources, the facility has been established on the advice of A.K. Viswanathan, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police, who is keen on making police stations appealing to the people by keeping them spic and span, and adding a garden and a reading section to them.
“There are around 1,400 books on various genres. We created this facility mainly for visitors to the station. While they are waiting to meet any official, they can be reading a book. The general public can also make use of the facility. Rotary Club and a few philanthropists have supported the establishment of the reading section,” says H. Krishnamoorthy.
The facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Those interested in donating books and teaching unprivileged students may contact M.S. Bhaskar, Inspector, Law & Order, Royapettah, at 94981 30011.
