6 casino vessels in Mandovi get another 6-month extension

PANAJI: The state cabinet on Friday gave another extension to the six offshore casinos in River Mandovi for a further period of six months that is up to September 30, 2019.

The cabinet meeting called on Friday afternoon was cancelled at the last moment. However, the cabinet gave approval to ten proposals including extension to the six offshore casinos in Mandovi river for a further period of six months by circulation.

The home department along with the Captain of Ports (CoP) examined the issue of identification of potential site. However, after due assessment of the CoP, indicating technical non-feasibility of the said sites, the same could not be finalised. Hence by previous cabinet decision, extension from time to time has been granted to relocate the said casinos so as to enable identification of a suitable site, the cabinet note stated.

The council of ministers also gave approval to the proposal of proclamation for earmarking and notifying integrated information technology township/IT parks, IT companies, IT enabled services startups, electronic manufacturing cluster and industry at Chimbel.

Other proposals for which approvals were given by the cabinet by circulation included land acquisition for Kulem-Madgaon doubling of South Western Railway project in Sanguem and Quepem talukas, hosting of under-17 women’s World Cup in Goa as one of the probable host cities in India, procurement of land for construction of 400 cubic metre capacity sump and pump at Pancgabhat in Curtorim village of Salcete taluka, technical cooperation between Goa government and the ministry of environment of the Portuguese Republic for water supply and waste water management and others.
