NEW DELHI: In the wake of the border tension with Pakistan, Delhi Police is undertaking a security review of more than 600 public places, such as ASI monuments and memorials, that are frequented by large numbers of visitors.
The review is being conducted by a team from the Special Cell and the local police and the security is being beefed up in places found inadequately covered.
Following the Pulwama attack that killed 41 CRPF personnel, the police were put on high alert and senior officials were asked to increase vigil near the headquarters of all security forces.
A list of 29 places that can be possible targets for a fidayeen attack were also shared with cops.
The team will check the police deployment along these high-security areas and reaction of the local police in case of an emergency.
To prevent a Pulwama-like attack, the police have been told to keep an eye on the parking lots around these areas. The vehicles entering these areas will also be thoroughly checked by cops. Teams from Delhi Police’s SWAT and Parakram units will be deployed at strategic locations for quick response.
While the installed CCTV cameras will be re-calibrated, more cameras will be put up, if required, to ensure real-time monitoring of footage.
The entries and exits to these areas have been put under surveillance to keep a tab on people’s movement, including that of vagabonds.
