CHENNAI: A 54-year-old realtor was arrested on Thursday for driving under the influence of alcohol and threatening another motorist with an air gun.
Vedha Arun Nagarajan, a resident of IDPL colony, Nandambakkam, owns a real estate business. Around 7am on Thursday, he was on the Kathipara flyover going towards Tambaram. As he was coming down the flyover, the speeding vehicle rammed a car in front of him. He lost control of the vehicle as he was drunk.
“When the men in the other vehicle got down and asked him to pay for the damages, Vedha pulled out an air gun and threatened them,” said a police officer.
The men immediately alerted the police control room and police personnel from Guindy traffic investigation wing reached the spot. They insisted on a breathalyzer test, which Vedha declined. He refused to cooperate and claimed that he was a bigwig and tried calling senior police officers.
The Guindy traffic police registered a case on charges of drunk and rash driving. He was handed over the Guindy police and his air gun was seized. No licence is required for an air gun. His car was also seized.
