NAGPUR: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday categorically ruled out the state going to polls simultaneously with Lok Sabha. There was speculation for quite some time that the state could dissolve its Assembly and go for polls six months before it term ends in October.

The speculation gained traction after the sparring saffron ruling partners BJP and Shiv Sena hurriedly struck a pre-poll pact for 2019 polls and finalised a seat-sharing pact not only for 48 Lok Sabha but also for 288 Assembly seats last month. While the BJP would contest 25, the Sena will field on 23 Lok Sabha seats in the state. For Assembly seats it will be an equal division.

Some TV channels added grist to it saying Haryana and Maharashtra state polls could be combined to the general elections to reap advantage of a renewed 'silent wave' of nationalism favouring Narendra Modi after the Pulwama incident and IAF air-strikes inside Pakistan.

When a reporter posed the question here to Fadnavis just before the Nagpur Metro inauguration function on Thursday afternoon, the chief minister firmly replied: "You can write it down. At least Maharashtra is not seeking simultaneous polls."
