NAVI MUMBAI: Nirav Modi’s 30,000 sq ft bungalow in Kihim beach, Alibaug was finally razed at around 11.15 am on Friday by the Raigad district administration.
The bungalow facing the Kihim beach turned into a rubble within a few seconds. As many as 110 dynamite sticks were used in the blasting, which was carried out under the supervision of four private sector experts hired by the district administration.
Three drones were used to videograph the process. A large number of people gathered to witness the bungalow blasting process.
Raigad additional collector Bharat Shitole said, "The mansion of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi was blasted at 11.15am on Friday. A total of 110 dynamite sticks were inserted in to the holes drilled into the reinforced cement concrete pillars. A total of 30 kg of blasting material was used to blast the sprawling bungalow within a fraction of second."
Shitole added, "Four experts hired by the administration undertook explosion and supervision work."
Shitole, known as a ‘Demolition Man through blasting’ among official circles, had blasted around 40 illegal buildings in Bhayander in 2000 and 2001.
The district administration will now have to lift the rubble from the demolition site. However, the Enforcement Directorate will continue to be the de facto and de jure owner.
Another Kihim resident Sachin Purao said, "I had witnessed the hole carving in pillars and also the demolition. Nobody was allowed to go inside with the bungalow. However, the demolition was slightly visible from outside."
Modi's bungalow was attached by the ED following his involvement in the Punjab National Bank fraud case.
