Morappur-Dharmapuri new railway line work begins
TNN | Mar 9, 2019, 04:31 ISTDharmapuri: The Southern Railway on Friday commenced work on the new railway line between Dharmapuri and Morappur. An official said earthwork formation for the new line has got under way at Morappur. The move comes after Union railway minister Piyush Goyal laying foundation stone for the Rs 358.95 crore project on Monday.
“The rail route is designed in a way to bring development and trade facilities to rural areas and cheaper transport facility to people there,” Dharmapuri MP Anbumani told TOI.
He said the project was initially announced in the 2006 railway budget. “But the state government did not take any step to implement the project as it had to share 50% of project cost.”
