Child panel directs Dehradun hospital to conduct DNA test of babies DEHRADUN: Days after a woman who gave birth at Government Doon Medical College and Hospital alleged that her newborn son was swapped with a girl child, the chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (USCPCR) Usha Negi directed the hospital on Thursday to conduct DNA test of the babies. The child rights body also told the woman’s family to take care of the baby girl until the DNA report is out.

The family of Aarti, 23, who gave birth at the hospital on Tuesday had allegedly created ruckus in the hospital, forcing the hospital staff to lock themselves in the labour room. The family had also filed a police complaint. The hospital authorities had claimed that there was confusion among nurses as two patients with the same name had given birth on the same day. The newborn boy has been taken home by another family.

USCPCR chairperson reached the hospital on Thursday and directed the authorities to conduct DNA test of both the babies.

“The casual approach of the hospital in such matters is shocking,” said Negi.

Dr K K Tamta, chief medical superintendent at the Doon hospital, told TOI that the hospital would support police in the investigation.
