Madurai
Justice R. Mahadevan of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday disposed of a plea that sought a direction to revoke inter-district mass transfer of 934 Block Development Officers across Tamil Nadu.
The plea filed by the Tamil Nadu Rural Development Officials’ Association was disposed of after the State submitted that the transfer orders were cancelled and the Collectors requested to re-post the BDOs in their respective units. However, they would be posted out of the Assembly constituency in which their home town was located or in the district where they had completed a tenure of three to four years, the court was informed.
The transfers were made by the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department and Revenue department on the demand made by the Election Commission of India. However, the ECI allowed the officers to remain posted within the district.
