INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY SPECIAL: WOMEN OFFICERS HAVE BIGGER CHUNK OF RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CONDUCTING UPCOMING LOK SABHA ELECTIONS

PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN IN ELECTION PROCESS SHOULD BE ENSURED: DISTRICT ELECTION OFFICER

Ludhiana, March 7, 2019: International Women Day is being celebrated across the globe on March 8, but this time this day would hold special significance for Ludhianvis as women officers posted in the district share bigger chunk of responsibilities for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019.

While providing information, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal stated that Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Dr Shena Aggarwal is the Additional District Election Officer Ludhiana, ADC (Jagraon) Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta, Assistant Commissioner (General) Mrs Poonam Preet Kaur, District Revenue Officer Mrs Savita are nodal officers for different election related activities.

Mrs Sumit Mudh, Mrs Jeevanjot Kaur, Miss Geetika Singh, Miss Sonam Chaudhary, Mrs Swati Tiwana would be Assistant Returning Officers for different constituencies. Even Mrs Anju Bala is posted as Election Tehsildar, besides several women police officers would also be on duty for the Lok Sabha 2019 elections.

Mr Agrawal informed that special emphasis is being given towards increasing the voting percentage and that is why, the district administration is creating awareness amongst first time voters, differently abled, women, labour, third gender, NRI and voters that can be easily influenced.

To ensure proper participation of women in the election process, “Sakhi” polling station would be established in all Vidhan Sabha constituencies. Only women staff would be deputed at these polling stations.

Mr Agrawal stated that it is quality of district Ludhiana that every time women voters participate in election process in large numbers and the district administration would try to maintain this track record. He also appealed to the women voters to participate in the election process this time also.
