Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir may be all set to ink his name in the list of cricketers-turned-politicians. According to a leading daily report, BJP is considering Gambhir’s name for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A BJP leader quoted in a leading daily saying the leadership is in touch with Gambhir and he is likely to be fielded from New Delhi seat which is currently held by Apex Court lawyer and party leader Meenakshi Lekhi.
Meanwhile, if Gambhir gets the ticket and wins the election, he’ll be another cricketer who has turned into politics after retirement. Other cricketers such as Mohammad Azharuddin, Kirti Azad and Navjot Singh Sidhu have done so before him.
On the other hand, the Election Commission is to soon announce the schedule for the upcoming general elections which is likely to be spread over 7-8 phases in April-May.
