Sewage treatment plants in five UP cities

LUCKNOW: Five UP cites got new sewage treatment plants (STPs) on Thursday. The STPs, each having capacity to treat 45 million litres sewage per day (MLD), have been built at the cost of Rs 1,969 crores.


These STPs have come up in Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Agra and Ayodhya.


These STPs were part of the seven projects worth Rs 2,349 crore which were inaugurated by Union home minister Rajnath Singh at a function held at Jhulelal Park in Lucknow. Other projects which inaugurated inlcuded the widened 156 km stretch of National Highway-56, from Varanasi to Sultanpur, and Rs 200-crore repair work of a 25km highway. The minister also laid the foundation of 55 projects to be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs one lakh crore.


These include construction and repair of 5,772 km network of roads by National Highway Authority of India and the public works department and health centres at several villages in UP.
